the new novint falcon box

Greetings Falcon Fans! We wanted to share images of our great new Falcon packaging with you. We're busy preparing for launch, but plan to post here much more regularly, so please keep checking back. We'd also like to hear what you'd like to talk about.

Any updates you can offer in regards to the upcoming launch would be greatly appreciated.

Sharp looking packaging. It seems that most topics of interest to readers of this blog are off limits or not known at this time, for one reason or another. I guess it goes without saying, just tell us what you can when you can. Do you have one more "show" coming before the June 18th launch date?

I read something about the Falcon being profiled in Stuff Magazine. Is that true? If so, you should post the article for everyone to read. Good publicity.

I heard a rumor that the Falcon was featured in Stuff Magazine...is this true?

re: feature in Stuff Magazine

The Falcon was, indeed, featured in Stuff Magazine. The May issue can be found on newstands now.

How would I get ahold of one of these in Canada? I want it for the pre-order price too =(

Any comments on the practicality of a cordless or semi-cordless model Falcon?

Is touch TV a real possibility? What and when can we expect websites with touch capabilities on them?

About Us said...

re: shipping outside the US

As you know, we are currently taking preorders for US shipments, and have not yet announced international launch dates. We are working hard to make the Falcon available world-wide as soon as possible. However, it is too early for me to speculate on pricing at this point.

re: cordless Falcon

It is feasible to have a Falcon that is untethered (ahem) from the computer itself, communicating wirelessly instead of via USB. However, because the Falcon relies on 3 busy motors to deliver touch sensations to the user, it needs power from an outlet source. It would be possible to have a mobile power supply, but probably not feasible.

re: touching websites and TV

A prior commenter also mentioned their desire to interact with various TV shows (they wanted to "help" the CSI team with a touch-enabled autopsy).

To answer your question, so-called "touch TV" is a real possibility. We have not currently announced plans to do this type of integration, but we'd certainly like to see our touch technology used anywhere and everywhere it makes sense.

As far as websites, the same response applies. It is possible to have websites, for instance, where you feel the textures of fabrics, try out a hand-tool, or play with a toy -- all before you make a purchase. Also, the online social networking potential is staggering, given the importance of touch to human connection.

You were also mentioned in a recent EGM article. Do you have any plans on making a library for the Unreal Engine 3?

About Us said...

re: Unreal Engine 3

We have not announced support for the Unreal Engine, but we are actively looking to support other engines. UE3 is a good candidate for something in the near future.

The box art looks perfect. Nice job.

why does the falcon not come with any billiards/pool/snooker game, this would be awesome, imagine feeling the weight of the cue

Do you think a library could be written for virtual pool 3d this is a game that has 18 pool games, snooker and billiards. It is made by celeris and can be downloaded for 20 dollars, writing a library for this game would be simple, and it would really promote the novint in the pool community as well as the game. Do you also know there is carom 3d and single player and online billiards game, in online mode it has advertising, you could advertise the novint through there, they have thousands of players, you could really sell the novint through it, it would make pool so much more realistic and i think people in the pool community would really buy your novint.

re: pool game for the Falcon

All we can say is, stay tuned...

So a pool game is coming out, do you know if it will have an online mode? i would love to play against other novint falcon players all over the world. Imagine the feeling, pool would become just like the real thing, because now you have the feeling of a real cue in your hand it can make aiming more difficult and more realistic, imagine that. Please please have multi player with a a nice friendly gui with server list for creating and entering online games. and have 3d darts/table football and snooker included. That would be awesome

Also i would love a painting game and chess, backgammon, checkers

Have you got any plans for the gambling sector, imagine roulette, poker and black jack with the novint, or even you creating a casino game?

Also will the SDK be easy to program for? Do you think users ie fans will be able to create haptic drivers for all the latest games easily?

I would also like mouse drivers, 2 degrees of freedom mouse drivers. so i can play all the latest games with the falcon. Even without force feedback the novint is way better than a regular mouse.

I also would like the novint to be able to feel the force feedback from all the currently enabled force feedbackgames on the PC. This way the novint could replace the standard force feedback joystick, this way having standard force feedback drivers could improve novint's market, and while the standard force feedback drivers are out there then novint can be working as well on the haptic drivers for the latest games.

I would also like to see novint working with Sony, to have this on the ps3 would be awesome especially with the new HOME launching later this year, walking through the HOME lobby and playing pool and ten pin bowling, basketball on the ps3 would be awesome on the falcon. I read in another thread of yours that you said the falcon has been designed with the ability to change bases, you have plans for one that can be positioned on your lap, well imagine that, sitting in front of your home cinema projector connected to the ps3, which should be easy with the current PC version as it uses USB 2.0 the same connection ps3 has. Then having this on your lap playing PS3 games would be really awesome.

Please answer my questions, novint is set to revolutionize the gaming industry.

Thank you for all your comments and ideas for games/uses of the Falcon. We definitely appreciate your input.

Re: SDK

We haven't released details on the SDK, but developers we've worked with so far have found that our technology is surprisingly simple to incorporate into their applications. We plan to make some form of SDK available shortly following launch.

We are unable to comment on many of your specific game ideas, but thank you again for the suggestions.

when will you accept international delivery?

For international customers like me can't i just get my own courier to drop by and pick up a falcon?

I have been wanting to preorder one of these and have waited for this falcon to come out for 2 years now. And now they don't even have international delivery.

About Us said...

re: international delivery

We have not announced a specific date for international delivery, but we have ensured from the beginning that the Falcon will be compliant to be sold internationally. Thank you for being so patient - we are working hard to allow international shipping as soon as possible. The wait should not be much longer.

Anonymous said...

But tell me please, will limited editions be available for the international customers?

About Us said...

Re: Limited Editions for international customers

We anticipate that there will be LE Falcons available for international shipping - exactly how many is unclear at this time.

Anonymous said...

If this second batch of limited editions falcons you have for July 23rd all sell out, then do you have a separate batch of LE falcons for international customers?

About Us said...

re: LE Falcons for international customers

The batch going out on July 23rd is only a portion of the Limited Edition Falcons. The number of preorders received above the number going out on the 23rd will affect how many International Limited Edition Falcons will be available. However, we plan to reserve some Limited Edition Falcons for International customers, so that there will be some available when we start shipping internationally.

20 dollar game out of the package!

that sucks, i am an international customer and since day one i have wanted to preorder and i liked the idea of getting a free game worth up to $20. Are you not going to change this?

If you had bothered to include international delivery from the start things would of worked out better for us customers.

That is a good point. We will add the free game download back in, for the rest of the Limited Edition Falcon sales. Thanks for your feedback.

I don't see the $20 game bundle back in on the buy now product description, when will it be updated on the store?

About Us said...

re: free game download in bundle

The request to include the free game download on the website has been submitted. The store section is being updated, but it may be a day or so before you see the change.

This thing is incredible. When is it going to be AVAILABLE IN CANADA? Are you looking at distribution through best buy or future shop?
